| In order to start its 2012 model-year off with a thrill, Sea Ray has launched the new 190 Sport, a distinctive model designed to stand apart from the “sea of sameness” in today’s 18- to 20-foot sport boat market. The breakthrough bowrider features athletic performance and styling, plus high-end fit and finish that owners won’t find in most comparable products.
With sweeping hull graphics that extend above the reverse sheer line, a stainless-steel rub rail and engine vent covers, and body sculpting that wraps around the deck from transom to bow, this runabout is sporty yet refined. Optional two-tone gel coat comes in black, blue, red or orange, and Sea Ray has added full-colour hull (black, blue, red or orange) and bottom colour (red or black) options this year for even more panache and personalization.
A black windshield frame and stainless-steel grab handles and beverage holders are also new to the company’s Sport series this year, and all these features can be found aboard the 190. Additional upgrades to make their way into this and other Sea Ray Sport models include two-tone vinyl with contrasting welting and a new forward-facing, folding, black watersports tower option that comes with an integrated bimini top, anchor light and wakeboard racks.
Inside, the 190 Sport offers space for a boatload of friends fore and aft. Fully finished storage compartments under the bow seats are ideal for holding towels and water toys, while the cockpit bench seat conveniently hinges forward to access a wide, deep storage tub for beverage or gear storage. Four weatherproof speakers — two more than many boats this size — give voice to the standard Sony® stereo with CD player and MP3 port; it’s protected in the lockable portside glove box; on the starboard the storage area beside the helm includes a 12-volt accessory outlet for powering up phones and other mobile devices.
Owners will appreciate the adaptability of the swiveling and sliding bucket seats, or they can opt up to bucket seats with flip-up, thigh-rise bolsters. Either choice offers a contoured fit like that found in a high-end sports car. The compact helm comes well equipped with power steering and a padded tilt wheel for driver control and confidence. A weatherproof switch panel with lighted chrome toggle switches, an instrument panel with custom backlit Sea Ray glass gauges, and a dash visor to regulate glare all translate to enhanced visibility and reliability.
A chrome-accented throttle and shift lever provides smooth command of the standard 135-hp MerCruiser® 3.0L MPI ECT engine with Alpha® I sterndrive. Optional power is a 220-hp 4.3L Alpha I. In addition, Sea Ray’s status as a MerCruiser Installation Quality Certified Manufacturer means the 190 Sport comes with a three-year engine warranty. The 190 Sport’s deep-V hull, a marvel of more than five decades of sport boat expertise, delivers an agile yet poised ride in a variety of water conditions. Like all Sea Ray boats, the 190 Sport delivers rock-solid durability with its computer-validated design and finished fiberglass floor and stringer system.
To get to the engine compartment, an innovative gull-wing sun pad includes gas-assisted lifts for easy access from both the cockpit and the swim platform. Storage areas to port and starboard of the engine hold larger items, so owners can tube, fish or cruise with all the gear they want and need. All the way aft, the standard extended swim platform and three-step ladder allow unobstructed entry to and safe re-boarding from the water.
