History - Marina Marbella

In the Beginning

The roots of the company date back to 1965. At the young age of 19 and 22 the brothers Lars & Göran Sundberg, both passionate boaters, came sailing from Sweden in an old oak galleon from the 1920s to settle themselves in the beautiful area of Marbella.

When the Swedish brothers built Marina Auto close to Puerto Banus in the 60s, their main goal was to provide comprehensive boat care services to maximise their clients’ boating experiences. And it proved a great success.

The beginnings

The boat business started in the port of Marbella.

Marina Auto

The first nautical showroom and service facility was built in Marbella, namely Marina Auto.

The Expansion

A dry marina and boat yard were built in Marbella with space to store more than 600 boats from 6 to 30 metres in length, thus creating the new headquarters and service centre of Marina Marbella with enough capacity to face up to the challenge of the 80’s and it’s ever increasing demand.

At the same time, a sales office was opened in the exclusive Puerto Banus where they were pioneers in offering comprehensive boat care services.

New Markets

The company entered new markets in UK, Portugal and Morocco with great success whilst increasing its presence in Spain, where new sales and service points were set up across the peninsula and the Balearics.

The Group extended its activities to construction and management of world-class marinas and yacht harbours in Seville (Marina Yachting) and Morocco (Port Marina Smir), both with sales offices, showrooms and service centres.

Back to the origins

The company continued to spread its strong European sales and service network, including in Sweden where the Directors had started their journey 30 years before.

40 years anniversary

The company commemorated its 40 Year anniversary with the completion of yet another ambitious project: the construction of a new marina and service centre in Setubal, Portugal.

Where we are now

The family owners who know the nautical world from every angle have conducted the Marina Marbella Group over more than 50 years up to todays 20 points of sale, 14 service centers and 3 marinas in 5 countries over 2 continents

We continue working on staying the sector leader, working with prestigious boat builders, training our staff and incorporating new technologies. We also broaden our product and service range to offer our clients always the best attention and the best products.

Marina Marbella has become a leader in its field thanks to their commitment to quality service, their careful selection of boat and yachts from prestigious worldwide manufacturers, their strategic choice of locations for sales offices and service centres, the construction and management of first class marinas and ports, their use of innovative technology and dedication of their team.

The commitment and dedication of the Directors and Management, reinforced by the second generation of the Sundberg family, together with their professional team of more than 150 people, ensure that Marina Marbella continues in an excellent position for the future.
